A sneak-peek at entries in the Solaris is IT competition

Since launching the Solaris is IT competition in late May, hundreds of IT professionals have entered the competition to win a Google Android powered HTC Dream Smart Phone.
“We already knew that Solaris was one of the most popular platforms on the planet – and suspected that the local IT community would love to share their thoughts about why it’s so good too. From the amount of positive entries received thus far, we were right,” said Greg Wade, Marketing Director, Frontline.

The diversity in respondents’ comments demonstrates that Solaris 10 means different things to different users. Here are just some of the many comments made by passionate Solaris users:
“Solaris… is the crocodile from the IT Dinosaur age. Many releases and incarnations of Unix have come and gone… yet Solaris continues to provide maximum performance and availability.” Mark G.
“Solaris provides all the bells and whistles around an architecture which offers the ability to intimately examine the inner workings of programs.” Mark A.
“I don’t like to do work, and Solaris makes my job easy.” Greg C.
“It is the most mature, multiplatform, scalable OS on the planet. I have used it on everything from sub-notebooks to enterprise servers and it’s never once let me down.” Christopher M.
“Proven scalability and maturity are the two most obvious reasons for our preference for Solaris, but the ready acceptance of Solaris by our customers, the flexibility of the ZFS and the accessibility of OpenSolaris are three other reasons that each rate pretty highly for us.” Terry D.
“We’re now encouraging all system administrators, architects and IT managers who haven’t yet entered, to have their say about Solaris too. Whether you agree or disagree with the statement ‘Solaris is IT’, we want to hear from you,” said Wade.
The competition, which asks Solaris users to describe, in 250 words or less, why Solaris is the best operating system on the market, will run until August 7.
